Listen here!!

Take it slow as you read this one through, allow the song to finish and sink in.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  The dark engulfed his body and his mind, despite how he tried to fend it off. He tried to hold on, he reached for the pain searing through his body to tether him, focusing on that until the sky was in his vision, and the darkness had been chased away.
    He had to live; only he could remember your smile, only he could help you live on within his memory. If he died, it would be like you dying all over again.
    And he couldn’t bear that.
I was just a kid then skipping stones
Innocent and so alone
In a sense we were all alone
    But the darkness was persistent, gathering around the corners of his vision once again, trying to drown out the sky and all of the light. Everything he had fought for, stood up for – bled for – had led him to this precise moment in time.
    But it wasn’t supposed to end like this. Not with him bleeding and dying entirely alone.
    Of course he had always known that the war would take his life one way or another. Perhaps he just wasn’t ready to accept his end.
You could take my heart and you could take my home
But you'll never ever break my soul
No you'll never ever break my soul
    If there was one thing he longed for, it was to hold you close one last time. But he knew that was impossible. You had died long ago. Taken from him too soon, your body turned to ash in the rain of fire.
    He allowed his storm-grey eyes to wander to the sky. For such a horrible end, the sky was too clear, too blue. It reminded him of you. Even in the darkest of times, you had always fought with nothing but your sweet, sweet smile on your face. You had always been the light to chase away his dark demons. But the sky only mocked him now.
I'm a soldier, 'til it's over
Live and die fighting for the art of war
I'm a soldier, I will never fall
    His mind wandered to times gone by; to simpler times. He had known you for years. Growing up together as kids, exploring the outer reaches of the world together, falling in love together… But then the war came. And though it could never break your vows, it broke your body, and then his heart.
    So as he lay upon the ground, he realized that maybe this was how it was all supposed to play out. Maybe his time had finally come.
    He closed his eyes, finally accepting the fate that had been chosen specifically for him. This was it.
We were just two kids thrown into the flames
We would never ever be the same
    The darkness swept over him then, covering him like a suffocating blanket of night. But then he heard your voice.
    No. You weren’t supposed to be here. Not in this dark abyss. In some beautiful place filled with light and laughter and love. Not here.
Follow me into the dark and I will lead you to the light
Formless, soundless, fearless, hearts keep holding on all through the night
    Your voice grew closer, and he tried to call out, to try and tell you to leave him here. A soft light began to glow. He stopped short, the words caught in his throat.
    It was you figure.
    A soft smile found its way onto his lips. You had always guided him from the worse of his dark demons. Of course you’d find him now. His hand reached for yours, warmth filled his body, and light overtook his world.
I will never fall
I will never fall
I will never fall
I will never fall
