Just gonna stand there and watch me burn

But that's alright because I like the way it hurts

Just gonna stand there and hear me cry

But that's alright because I love the way you lie

I love the way you lie

It had been two months since Levi had woken up from all the destruction of that night and promised he would quit his drinking. And he had done exactly that. He couldn’t bear to see what he had done to you, how long it had taken for the bruises to fade, how much care you took to cover them up. Levi never wanted to see that again. So he changed, like he had promised.

His relationship with you had soared; he felt like Superman with the wind at his back and you were Lois Lane. He knew he had made you happy with his change. You didn’t cry every night anymore, you weren’t afraid to spend the night with him. He had made you proud.

But now Levi stood before the counter, the bottle gleaming in the kitchen light. He wanted to take the bottle in his hand, wanted to gulp down the drink that was his poison, his drug; he needed to feed his addiction. Levi clenched his fists. How would that make you feel? You were the woman that he loved so much he had been willing to quit for to begin with. He couldn’t go back on his word now or what kind of man would that make him?

The sound of the apartment door opening startled Levi, he quickly turned around, hiding the bottle behind his body.

I can't tell you what it really is

I can only tell you what it feels like

And right now there's a steel knife in my windpipe

I can't breathe but I still fight while I can fight

As long as the wrong feels right it's like I'm in flight

“Hey, babe!” You called happily, “I brought dinner,” you said as you put the takeout containers on the table.

“How was work?” Levi asked, trying to calm his palpitating heart.

“The same as every other day,” you said as you neared Levi, the plates in the cupboard behind him. “Excuse me,” you smiled when Levi wouldn’t budge.

“I’ll grab the plates,” he responded. You shrugged and walked back to the table, gladly taking a seat after a long day of work. You closed your eyes and leaned your head back, taking in a deep breath. You heard Levi retrieve the plates from the cupboard and then set them down on the table. You opened your eyes to see him dishing out the food. You smiled.

Levi really had changed after he quit his drinking habit. And you couldn’t be more proud. He was the same caring man you had fallen in love with. You felt safe around him again. Your love for him multiplied and you felt like the two of you could do anything together.

The two of you ate in silence and you couldn’t help but feel like something was on Levi’s mind. It worried you that he wasn’t just being open about it, and since that was the case you weren’t sure if it would be a good idea to bring it up.

You took a deep breath, “What’s on your mind, hun?” You inquired. Levi’s steely eyes looked up from his dinner and met with your (e/c) eyes. He chewed his food slowly, his intimidating gaze never leaving yours. You couldn’t help but feel afraid.

High off her love, drunk from her hate,

It's like I'm huffing paint and I love her the more I suffer, I suffocate

And right before I'm about to drown, she resuscitates me

She fucking hates me and I love it.

Suddenly Levi shoved his dinner from the table, the food flying to the floor and the plate smashing on the tiled floor.

“Levi!” You gasped, “What the fuck did you do that for?” You shouted.

“I can’t fucking take this shit anymore, (name)!” He shouted back.

    “What shit?” You asked.

Your eyes widened as Levi stalked to the cabinet where the alcohol was. He swiftly opened it and took out his whiskey, uncapping it and taking a large swig straight from the bottle.

“Levi…” You said. You could literally feel your entire being fill with disappointment.

“Don’t you fucking look at me like that,” he accused, pointing his finger at you. He marched up to you and took a handful of your hair in his free fist. “I fucking changed for you, you bitch! And now you think you can fucking judge me?” He shouted in your face before throwing you to the floor and kicking you hard in the ribs. A cry escaped your lips. You looked up to see him drinking from the bottle again.

You took your chance to get up and quickly make your way to the bedroom, pain igniting in your chest. Did he break a rib? You locked the door and found your backpack before you stuffed clothes into it. You began crying as he pounded on the door, trying to get in. You had told him that if he started drinking again you would leave him. He hadn’t believed you. Now he would.

You opened the door to greet an angry-faced Levi with your over-filled backpack in hand. You shoved him out of your way and he followed you to the front of the apartment. Your hand gripped the doorknob.

“Wait, where you going?!” Levi shouted.

    “I’m leaving you!”

“No you ain’t!” Levi said, grabbing your pack out of your hands. He dropped it to the floor then threw his fist into your gut. You fought the urge to double-over, knowing he would strike again. He got ready to grab at you. But you were ready for him. You wound up and punched him in the jaw, causing him to stagger, your knuckles flaring in pain. You quickly grabbed your pack and threw open the apartment door. You ran to the stairwell – the elevator would be too slow.

You let out a sigh as you made it out of the building, the night air cool on your warm face. You couldn’t believe this was happening again. You sunk down to the sidewalk and let your tears fall freely, your entire body shaking from the sobs.

You ever love somebody so much you can barely breathe when you're with 'em

You meet and neither one of you even know what hit 'em

Got that warm fuzzy feeling

Yeah, them chills you used to get 'em

Now you're getting fucking sick of looking at 'em

Levi couldn’t believe he had done it again. He watched your form from the living room window, drink in hand. He took another swig from the bottle, however, nothing greeted his tongue. Levi scowled at the empty bottle. He let out a yell as he threw it against the wall before retrieving a full one from the cabinet. He knew you would come back. No matter how much he lost his mind you always did. And if you didn’t, he would find you and force you to come back.

Levi slumped to the couch. Two months of sobriety over just like that. Levi leaned back, his head already spinning from the whiskey. A low chuckle escaped his throat. What had even caused him to snap this time? He wasn’t sure, but he didn’t really give a shit either. He knew he would never lose you, so it didn’t matter.

So lost in the moments when you're in them

It's the rage that took over,

It controls you both

So they say you're best to go your separate ways

Guess that they don't know you 'cause today that was yesterday

Yesterday is over, it's a different day

You wished Levi would come out and tell you that he was sorry, wished he would give you some sort of sign to let you know that he actually wanted to be with you. But why did you keep going back to him? Was it just because of your love for him? Was that the only thing tying you to him?

You sobbed as the air chilled you to your bones. You began to crave the warmth of his body as you began to shiver. You looked up into the sky, the streetlights drowning out any stars that may have been shining.

You jumped as arms were suddenly around you, “Baby, please come back,” Levi said into your ear, his breath tainted with whiskey, “It wasn't you, baby it was me. Maybe our relationship isn't as crazy as it seems, maybe that's what happens when a tornado meets a volcano! All I know is I love you too fucking much to walk away. Please come inside, pick up your bags off the sidewalk.” He cooed.

You shrugged out of his embrace and backed away from him, your foot leaving the sidewalk and touching the paved road. “Levi, I can’t! This will never change!”

“Baby, please! Don't you hear sincerity in my voice when I talk?”

“Levi, you’re drunk – again. This isn’t the real you. And you like pretending to be this man more than the one I love, so I can’t,” you said, fighting back the want – the need – to go back into his arms.

“I told you this is my fault! Look me in the eye!” He screamed and you obeyed, “Next time I'm pissed, I'll aim my fist at the drywall!” He pleaded.

“Next time?” You breathed, your throat tightening.

“Then there won’t be a next time!” He tried, falling to his knees, reaching for your hand. “I’m fucking sorry, babe. I fucking love you.” Your gaze wandered to a car turning onto the street, the headlights momentarily illuminating your figures. You let your eyes move back to Levi’s.

I apologize even though I know its lies

I'm tired of the games I just want her back

I know I'm a liar

If she ever tries to fucking leave again

Im'a tie her to the bed and set this house on fire

I'm just gonna

“No. I love you too, Levi, but I can’t,” you whispered, tears falling from your eyes. You bent down and picked up your bag.

A cry escaped your lips as you felt Levi’s hands on your body, forcefully pushing you outwards. Your eyes met with his for a moment and in them you saw everything you had loved and everything you had lost. You saw the regret pour onto his face, a cry of sorrow begin on his mouth, his eyes transforming his face to one of pain – and then bright lights filled your vision, screeching tires deafening you – then the impact, and utter blackness.

Just gonna stand there and watch me burn

But that's alright because I like the way it hurts

Just gonna stand there and hear me cry

But that's alright because I love the way you lie
