On the first page of our story

The future seemed so bright

Then this thing turned out so evil

I don’t know why I’m still surprised

Even angels have their wicked schemes

And you take that to new extremes

But you’ll always be my hero

Even though you’ve lost your mind

Levi sat alone on the sofa, the room getting darker with each minute that passed. He sat there, his steely eyes staring at the liquor bottle that he gripped in his pale hands. Three hours. But you still weren’t home. Levi knew he couldn’t deny the truth that ate away at his mind any longer. There was only one explanation, and it was that you were cheating. It was the only thing that made sense.

Five hours. Yet you still weren’t home and he still sat on the sofa, the TV now flickering in the background, casting its shifting light around the dark room and reflecting on the glass coffee table. Levi felt a tear snake down his cheek, startling him. He quickly wiped it away. If what I think is happening is true, the bitch doesn’t deserve my tears, he thought angrily to himself. He took another swig from his bottle before he dropped it beside the other four now littering the floor.

The sound of keys turning the bolt in the door snapped his attention to the front of the apartment. He quickly stood from his place on the sofa to greet you. Levi gritted his teeth as your form walked through the door, your arms laden down with dozens of shopping bags that you gladly placed down upon the kitchen table.

“Honey, I’m home!” You called, though Levi already knew that.

“Tch. Where the hell have you been, (f/n)?” He questioned, wanting to get straight to the point and figure out what was happening between you two.

You gave him a baffled look and motioned to the bags that now littered the table, “I was shopping, Levi. Is everything okay?” You asked him. Levi scowled, displeased at himself for allowing you to see him so disheveled.

“So you were shopping tonight. What about last night, or the night before, or even the night before that?” Levi asked bitterly.

Levi watched your beautiful face fall, clearly understanding his accusations, “It’s not what you think,” you stated.

Just gonna stand there and watch me burn

But that’s all right because I like the way it hurts

Just gonna stand there and hear me cry

But that’s all right because I love the way you lie

I love the way you lie

Oh, I love the way you lie

“It’s not what I think?” Levi repeated. “What the fuck am I supposed to make of that, (f/n)?” He asked angrily.

You let out a heavy sigh and rolled your eyes, trying to make your way passed Levi and into the living room, but he quickly grabbed hold of your wrist. You fought against his strength, his fingers squeezing tightly, melding into your bones.

    “Levi, that hurts!” You screeched.

“What the fuck are you doing behind my back?” Levi shouted, his grip tightening.

    “Let. Go.” You warned.

“Are you fucking cheating on me, you bitch?” Levi asked, fully giving in to all the anger that ravaged his mind.

Your mouth dropped at Levi’s hurtful words, tears quickly forming in your eyes, “I told you it’s not what you think,” you cried.

“So then what the fuck are you doing staying out every night?! Why don’t you answer my calls?! Why the fuck don’t you come home sometimes?!” Levi shouted, throwing you from him. You stumbled, landing on the sofa as Levi marched towards you, his muscled figure towering over you.

“Levi please!” You begged, “At least give me the chance to explain!” You pleaded as he raised his hand, prepared to strike. You quickly got up and shoved against him, causing him to lose his balance and fall backwards upon the coffee table. The sound of glass shattering startled you more than Levi’s surprised cry. You were sick of being his punching bag when he mixed his anger with alcohol.

Fear pitted itself in your stomach as you saw Levi slowly stand from the shattered glass, his arms dripping crimson blood on the hardwood. You hadn’t meant for that to happen, you had just wanted to avoid his strike.

    “Levi, I’m sorry –”

“You fucking bitch!” Levi said, launching at you with full-force, his hands grasping your shoulders as the two of you fell back upon the sofa. He wound his fist back and you cried in pain as it made contact with your cheek, stars dancing in your vision.

You made Levi’s eyes meet with yours, tried to get him to see that you weren’t cheating – that the reason you didn’t come home most nights was because of this. You were scared of Levi, you were scared of your relationship… But at the same time you loved him more than anything and you couldn’t bear the thought of living without him.

“Levi, I love you,” you said in an attempt to get him to see reason.

Now there’s gravel in our voices

Glass is shattered from the fight

In this tug of war you’ll always win

Even when I’m right

‘Cause you feed me fables from your hand

With violent words and empty threats

And it’s sick that all these battles

Are what keeps me satisfied

“Don’t fucking lie to me!” He said, winding his arm back to hit you again. You brought your hands up and tried to push him off of you, but he quickly pinned your arms above your head, bringing his face closer to yours. You could smell the whiskey on his breath, the smell sickening you.

“Levi, honey, I’m not lying to you. I love you and only you,” you whispered.

Levi cracked in his drunken state, tears falling from his eyes and onto you, “I love you too,” he slurred as his body shook from crying.

Just gonna stand there and watch me burn

But that’s all right because I like the way it hurts

Just gonna stand there and hear me cry

But that’s all right because I love the way you lie

I love the way you lie

Oh, I love the way you lie

“Levi, let’s get you cleaned up,” you said, knowing you needed to clean his wounds from the fall. Not to mention you’d be up through the night picking up glass, scrubbing the floor, and trying to get the stains out of your clothes and the sofa.

Levi looked at you confused and then down at his arms. His face quickly became one of anger once more, “You did this to me, you bitch!” He yelled. He unpinned your wrists and his fingers grasped your neck instead, cutting off your airway. You began coughing and grabbed his arm, trying to pull him from your neck.

“Le-Levi!” You choked, tears streaming down the sides of your face. His grip loosened and you gasped for air, quickly pushing him off of you as you leaned your face over the side of the couch, greedily breathing in for more air.

“Forgive me, (f/n),” Levi cried, sitting himself on the sofa and burying his face in his hands.

“I do, Levi. I always will,” you cooed, kneeling before him, pulling his hands from his face.

So maybe I’m a masochist

I try to run but I don’t wanna ever leave

'Til the walls are goin’ up

In smoke with all our memories

“I love you, (f/n).” Levi said.

You nodded, “Come on, baby, let’s get you to bed,” you whispered, just wanting him out of the way. You helped Levi stand, his staggering legs hard to move. You got him to bed and let him collapse there, not even bothering to bring up his wounds again while he was intoxicated. You could deal with them in the morning. You left the bedroom and walked to the living room.

You sunk to your knees looking at the destruction that had befallen your home. You cried. Your neck was aflame, and you were positive you would have his hand marks imprinted on it for at least a week. Your wrists were already bruising from his unforgiving grip and you had his blood all over you. You finally looked at the coffee table, the glass shattered and spread throughout the entire living room. You had caused this.

It's morning, you wake, a sun ray hits your face

Smeared makeup as we lay in the wake of destruction

Hush baby, speak softly, tell me you're awfully sorry

That you pushed me into the coffee table last night

So I can push you off me

Try and touch me so I can scream at you not to touch me

Run out the room and I’ll follow you like a lost puppy

Baby, without you I’m nothing, I’m so lost, hug me

Then tell me how ugly I am, but that you’ll always love me

Then after that, shove me, in the aftermath of the

Destructive path that we’re on, two psychopaths but we

Know that no matter how many knives we put in each other’s backs

That we’ll have each other’s backs, ’cause we’re that lucky

Together, we move mountains, let’s not make mountains out of molehills,

You hit me twice, yeah, but who’s countin’?

I may have hit you three times, I’m startin’ to lose count

But together, we’ll live forever, we found the youth fountain

Our love is crazy, we’re nuts, but I refuse counsellin’

This house is too huge, if you move out I’ll burn all two thousand

Square feet of it to the ground, ain’t shit you can do about it

'Cause with you I’m in my fuckin’ mind, without you I’m out it

Levi’s eyes slowly opened. A strong headache pounded in his mind. Fuck, how drunk did he get last night? He turned over and saw your form sleeping beside him. Your makeup was smeared in streaks – had he made you cry again? Guilt pitted his stomach as he saw bruises along your fair neck in the shape of his fingers. Fuck. He had fucking lost it again last night.

He rolled onto his back, covering his eyes with his forearm. Something crusty met with his forehead and he looked at his arm to see a bloody mess. He quickly sat up and looked at the white sheets – now stained with his blood.

Had you fought back for once? Had you done this to him?

Levi shook you awake, your form flinching from his touch. If you flinched away from his mere touch, he knew last night was bad. You turned your head towards him and Levi nearly cursed as he saw your swollen and bruised cheek.

“Fuck.” Levi cursed. “Why don’t you try and stop me when I lose control – this can’t keep fucking happening, (f/n)! What if I lose myself so far that I fucking kill you?! What then?!” He screamed.

“I do try,” your hoarse voice said as you sat up in bed. “Come to the bathroom, let’s clean up your arms,” you said, knowing he was sober now.

“What the fuck happened last night?” He asked as he followed you from the bedroom.

“You drank too much, accused me of cheating on you, lost control of yourself,” you offered as a blunt explanation.

“What the fuck happened to my arms?”

“I pushed you off of me and into the coffee table – which I am truly sorry for!” You apologized, afraid you might set him off again. You froze as his arms snaked around you, pulling you against him.

“Don’t apologize for protecting yourself against my destructiveness. I could have hurt you more than I did,” he whispered into your hair. You slowly allowed yourself to relax into his form, his strong arms felt like home around you. “I need to fucking give up drinking. I don’t want to hurt you anymore, babe. I fucking love you too much to live with the guilt that I have to wake up to when I see your injured form. I’m so sorry,” he breathed.

Just gonna stand there and watch me burn

But that’s all right because I like the way it hurts

Just gonna stand there and hear me cry

But that’s all right because I love the way you lie

I love the way you lie

“I love you too,” you said. You knew Levi would never quit drinking, and your fights would never end. But in a strange way, that you both loved and hated, it was how your relationship worked. You would always be here for the broken man, and he would always be there to comfort you from himself.

I love the way you lie

I love the way you lie

I love the way you lie

I guess the question is who cheated on who first and with whom.
